You’re driving and you see that orange light turn on. What do you do? You take it to the auto shop, right? The last thing you want is for your car to stop in the middle of the road.
Ever experienced this?
I remember my previous car. It was a 1997 Toyota Camry. I drove that car to the ground, had over 200,000 miles. However, it kept overheating and I had to put in coolant ever so often. One time I was driving and smoke started coming out. I had to pull over and wait for AAA. Let’s just say I had to let go of the car. So how does this story relate to fitness?
Treat your body like your car
We live in our bodies every day. In like manner, we drive every day (if you live in California). So our car is a vital aspect of our life. That’s how we get to work, go out to eat, meet people, etc. When our car breaks down, it hinders us from doing these things (you can’t take Uber or Lyft everywhere, it’ll add up). That is why it is so important to take care of our car. Making some weird sounds? Take it to the shop. Have a flat tire? Take it to the shop. Avoid it from getting worse. So why not do the same for your body?
“My neck hurts.” “Did you stretch?” “No.” “Why not?” “I forgot.” This is a conversation I have on a daily basis. We neglect the aches and pains we feel daily. Why? Because in the back of our minds, we believe that it will get better. “It’ll go away.” However, this is wishful thinking and at times it gets worse.
I wish there was a warning light that turns on when something is hurting. There are no auto shops to tune-up our bodies. We must put in the effort to learn stretches or exercises that will benefit our aches or pain or seek a medical/fitness professional.
We are stuck in the bodies we were given. So just like the car you are driving, make it a priority to fix your aches or pain. Neglecting them is the last thing you want to do. A flat tire won’t fix itself, ladies and gentlemen. So if you have something that’s been bothering you, get on it! Hope you enjoyed this week’s blog. Stay tuned for more next Wed……….Kei
