This is what I tell people when they mess up. Let’s be honest, we ALL mess up. And when I say “mess up”, I am talking about nutrition. Birthday party, barbeque, anniversary, holiday party, or simply Fridays, there are going to be days where keeping the diet under control is not going to happen. And that’s okay; it is what it is.

The thing that I tell clients is to always plan ahead; KNOW what’s coming up. If you know you are going to mess up those days, that’s completely fine. So the days that are leading up to it is where you have to keep it under control. Better yet, the days after the event. There’s always going to be SOMETHING, and that’s just life. It wouldn’t be fun if we weren’t allowed to live to the fullest right? We all have our demons. Mine happens to be ice cream. Put that pint (Haagen-Dazs coffee flavor if you’re wondering) in front of my face and I will scarf that bad boy down in a heartbeat. I know that I have the ability to do this, so I have to make sure I don’t have it all the time. When I get the craving I know I have to amp up my cardio because that ice cream is coming; I’ll run longer to lessen the damage.

Guilt is another motivating factor in working harder. You know you ate bad, feel bad about it, but it’s not the end of the world. Just reset and come back with a strong mindset. It’s just like in sports, where teams go on these crazy winning streak and sometimes feel like they can win every game, but lose at some point and have to brush it off and get back to the winning ways. What do they do? They RESET and figure out ways how to win again. Nutrition has similar patterns like this and you just have to do realize that nothing is going to change unless you take action.
